Is it just me or did the latest TF toyline come out blazing then just fizzil out? All I've really seen lately are repaints.
In the past two months outside of Soundwave I haven't seen a new mold from Hasbro or Takara.
I check all my local retailers every Friday (the hasbro release date in my area). The only new bot I saw was that hoover craft looking guy, and he was so unimpresive, that for the first time in I don't know how long, I put it back!
I love Transformers, I have thousands and want thousands more! But I don't want repaints.
Granted the idea goes back to the G1 era, but as prices and hype skyrocket (what happened to the $15.99 price range?) I just think that we should be getting better then a flood of really great bots, then a year of the same thing in different colors.
Beyond Metroplex and a few other choice bots, does Cybertron have anything left?
It's sad that this doesn't only apply to Cybertron, the Alternators are up to around 25-30 bots and only what, 6 molds!?!
Thats suppose to be our master piece line for crying out loud!
On the bright side though, I figure just wait 3 months and see who's head they put on Opimus, and maybe then I'll buy that mold.
I don't wanna grip, and again I do love Transformers, but if we ask for more we're gonna get it. however if we just keep praising whatever, then whateversd all we're gonna get.
I work hard for my money, and so should they, stop buying repaints!

Unfortunately, that's how Hasbro makes their money. Notice how they usually recolor a slow moving mold, such as Thundercracker or Overhaul. If the mold doesn't sell as well as they thought, they give it a new paint job and hope the mods will make up for the cost. Rarely do they take a fan favorite (like Starscream's Voyager mold) and do a good repaint of that.
I'll give some credit to Hasbro, however. The repaints in the Cybertron line have been MUCH better than with Armada or Energon. You are right though, excessive repaints are frustrating. But they're never going to go away no matter how hard anyone tries. All you can do is judge which repaints are worth having and buy them.

This is the least informed post I have ever seen.
All the recent lines come out in waves of about 3 months, so of course there's two month spans with no new releases. Wing Saber and Shortround just came out. Menasor, Metroplex, Quickmix, Unicron, and hello, PRIMUS are being released within the next two months according to the TFclub preorders.
So far there's twelve confirmed distinct Alternators molds, including Mirage (also out soon) and Rumble. Although Ricochet and Rollbar are admittedly pretty lame, there hasn't yet been a finalized Alt recolor of any figure newer than Windcharger (the seventh mold)
I can't deny repaints are getting ridiculous, but just don't frickin' buy them.

In the past month we've gotten Soundwave w/Laserbeak, Shortround and Wingsaber. We still have the 3 Giant planet molds, PRIMUS, Giant minicon team. It seems like to me, Cybertron had the quickest figure releases in recent history. New figures every MONTH it seemed. Cybertron seems to have the most repaints as well on a good note Cybertron has had the most new mold in a single line in recent history too. Think about it.
We got TWO all new Supreme molds in the same line. Energon Unicron doesn't count cause he's a repaint. We got THREE Leader Class bots. That's unheard of. We're getting FIVE all new Ultras. During Energon there were on 2 that I remember. On top of that Scorponok has been overhauled.
Nine All new Voyager/mega, 6 Hasbro exclusive molds, a Ton on deluxes and Scouts..........what are we complaining about again.

I think your problem may be to low distribution in your area. Some places get the new figures earlier than everybody else. At least your situation isn't as bad as mine as I'm in freakin' Australia, where we haven't even got Cybertron Crosswise or Alternators Prowl! And as for your plea to 'stop buying repaints'...too bad. A fair amount of my extensive wish list are repaints, and let's not forget the Universe line, which is entirely made up of repaints. RiD was apparantly half a line, due to all of the Decepticons being Autobot repaints.
And as for the '6 molds' remark...maybe you should do a little research before you post something. For that matter, there's only been 21 bots so far, including Prime.

I suspect another strategie by the toy companies: Give them an interesting new mold with ugly colours, and they'll buy it. Get the same thing with better looking colours (Swindle, Excellion, Skywarp, Blurr), and they'll buy it too. Make the ugly version first, then make the interesting version with a classic G1 name.
For instance: I'm really pissed off they first made a blue Hot shot and after that a red Excellion (Hot Rod style). Make a red Hot shot/rod and everyone will buy it!
I think it's better to make 12 dimes than 4 quarters, but the toy companies seem to think otherwise.

Jeeze, give the guy a break. This is BLOG posting, he's just stating his opinion. I am in agreement somewhat with him. This line seems to have lost steam towards the end. Sure there is some big releases coming, but that is the only thing holding my attention right now. GF coming out before it didnt help. We got some kickass toys from the line. Its all good if you ask me.

What I wanna know is, who are all these kids who supposedly want to spend their money on "bright colours"??
I may be alone in this, but I remember my childhood toy daze, and I never felt this way. If my crew of friends had the choice between an olive green tank, and one that was neon orange, we'd take the one that LOOKED LIKE A TANK.
If there was a tranformer insect-bot that was bright yellow and green, and a knock-off that was steel-grey and cobalt blue, guess which one we agreed was cooler?
(kudos to anyone who actually can name which figures I'm referring to there. :) )
For me, the cool transformers were the autobots that looked like real vehicles, or the ones with cold, inscrutable faceplates, and somber colour tones. Skywarp in his black with purple and steel piping was like, the coolest of the bunch.
I remember when Transformers and GIJOE "went neon" and the collective gagging and griping that followed among my friends. It seemed like something had been lost... the realism, the detail, the edge...
Around then I picked up a Gnaw Sharkticon figure at a yardsale. I recall looking skeptically on his pastel tones. When I showed him to my mother, all she did was exclaim "Pretty colours!"
PRETTY?? This was a mindless robotic killing machine, a savage slave and executioner for a race of dehumanized, genocidal galactic tyrants, who tore into his foes with row-on-row of jagged steel teeth and wielded a vicious spiked mace! Is that the kind of robot your MOM should think is PRETTY??
I think that about says it all...
Oddly enough, it's only been in my later years of toy collecting that I've come to appreciate the simplified brighter colours and more distinctly "toylike" qualities of some TFs. I think this is because I tend to treat them more as pure objects and showpieces, rather than actually playing with them in some imagined world or storyline.
That's 12 molds... 10 if you don't count the 2 upcoming releases. Where did the 6 come from? I agree that having 3 recolors in the same line is just ridiculous, but let's not exaggerate here.

This is Barrage, and the KO is from the Convertors series!
As for the logic behind the bright colors, that's an American thing, not Japanese. For some reason marketing people think that kids will be attracted to the bright colors in the toy aisle. It's also why you end up with neon colored breakfast cereals.

Right you are!
The Convertors "Creeper" figure was a little smaller than Barrage, with a slightly simplified transformation (his bug legs weren't articulated), and a different head mold... but I always liked him better.
Glad I'm not the only one who still remembers. :)
As for the bright colours, I think it's really part of the merchandising mentality on both sides of the Pacific.
Besides the TFs designed in Japan, one needs look no further than Japanese-only series like the Brave Robot line, Webdiver, Travelion, Mugenbine, and the various Sentai series, to see that Japanese super-robots are all pretty colourful. Melted box of crayons indeed! :)
A long way from the old days and that classic black, red and steel colour scheme that was used over and over again for Mazinger, Grandizer, Daikyojin, Gaiking, etc...

I LOVE the repaints! I LOVE having at least 2 of each mold in different colors. I like most of the Cybertron repaints better than the originals, Brushguard, Repugnus, Vector Prime, Cannonball, Sky Shadow, Galvatron to name a few. I love having 2-4 of the same mold all in different colors like Armada Starscream. It's one of my favorite things about collecting Transformers. I had Omega Sentinel & I just picked up Omega Supreme MIB today for $20.00, I was psyched!
