Armada Sideswipe and Nightbeat Gallery
Jack - Wednesday, January 15, 2003

Everyone has been talking about the new Armada Sideswipe and Mini-con figures ever since we saw the prototype pics in a Yahoo auction. Unfortunately if didn't offer us much in the way of details on the new race figure and his Mini-con. Well now you can see it all. Check out 25 clear and detailed images of Sideswipe and Nightbeat below.

Some interesting facts about Sideswipe and Nightbeat.
  1. The weapons store behind the car doors (pics 12 and 13).
  2. The power link activation on his back, in robot mode, makes the right arm do a karate chop action.
  3. The read carriage will fold into the car cab even with the mini-con parked on it. There is a small yellow button on the left rear to expose the Mini-con (pic 11 and 14).
  4. The arms fold back at the forearm and lock into place (pic 19 and 20).
  5. There is very little articulation in the arms. There is a small ball-joint holding the forearms in place that can barely move once the figure is in robot mode. The leggs are not any better.
  6. The Gun and Knife snap together to make a single larger weapon. Sorry, I forgot to take a pic of that one, will try to post one soon.
Like many of you I was put off by the 1st pics I saw of this toy. Now that I have it, I really really like it. While the mini-con is really simple, there is a certain charm to the toy. It is definately not like the other Mini-cons we've seen. I give Hasbro and Takara some credit for trying something original. I like it!

Hasbro Transformers product desiner, Aaron Archer has shared a look at a Transformers Megatron design that never was. The concept image is described as "A unrealized Megatron design from around 2002, 03. I think I wanted him to be a bomber/spaceship." Judging from the date, this was likely made for the Armada line. This is definitely very different look for the Decepticon leader with HUGE weapons for hands, WILD! Read on for the look at the unrealized Megatron design to see it all.
