It all began with us posting the news story. Then a slew of comments started being posted about the item being just a slightly different box than the one we've seen before. Then I got an message from a user who purcahsed one saying that the item was not different than the Toys R Us Starscream, other then the price sticker, its the exact same toy.
This inspried me to make some calls and get to the bottom of this story. Afterall, I had just paid $60 for one of these myself. So I started making some calls. I called Hasbro's consumer hot line and was told no Transformers product was listed as specific to Disney or made in a limited edition. I was then given the number to the Hasbro Store in Disney World called "Once Upon a Toy." Once connected, I was able to talk with a store manager who I exlpained the story too. He responded stating the following: "We carry many of Hasbro's Transformers line in our store including the Armada and Heroes of Cybertron toys. From what I know there are no limited or special edition Transformers items here. The Starscream reissue is sold through us because we are a Hasbro outlet." The manager then informed me that anyone is welcome to order the item over the phone by credit card for the cost of $30 plus shipping to be delivered by UPS. The order line is available at (407)934-7775. Call them and tell the operator you want item #22700658. They ship by UPS ground. I did call and was able to verify they are in-fact available for order right now.
Next, I followed up with Matrix Quest Toys to find out if there was any official source stating the item was limited and a true variant. According to Mr. Fran O'boyle of Matrix Quest, he spoke with the manager of the retail establishment claiming he was as "a rep for Hasbro" and that the person claimed they received a shipment of 500. At which time I also asked if there were any signs in the store saying the product was limited or is this a case where the store employee may be misinformed. That without an official press announcement or some specials markings on the toy or box box indicating it is a limited edition that the item cannot be declared as such. At this time Mr. Boyle became irate with me and after some heated discussion, I was able to demand my money back. I am only assuming that he will offer it to anyone else who feels that they may have been mislead. Contact MatrixQuestToys directly if you have any questions. If you have purchased one of these from another online retailer, I recommend you contact them directly with your questions and concerns in this matter.
