Hasbro's Katherine Buckland Talks Transformers Cinematic Universe and Bumblebee Spin-off
BaCon - Wednesday, October 04, 2017

Thanks to ISSU, we have details on the article in Brand Licensing Europe 2017 with Hasbro's Katherine Buckland who answer's questions from the press on Transformers Cinematic Universe and the Bumblebee spin-off in production now. She shares some details on these new properties and how Hasbro develops products for them.
One of the bigger news stories coming out of the Hasbro stable is the big screen movie release of the Bumblebee movie in 2018. Tell us more about it.

Next December, Bumblebee will hit theaters from Academy Award nominated director Travis Knight and will star Academy Award nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena to offer fans a rich storyline surrounding fan favorite Autobot Bumblebee.

Hasbro has really created a Transformers Cinematic Universe here. With each new film, what approach does the] team take?

Hasbro takes a pragmatic approach when developing product ranges for upcoming films. From the start, we pay specific attention to detail to ensure the characters and storylines fans see on the screen translate into products people see on the shelves. The product needs to deliver a level of innovation that’s more than meets the eye. Consumers and fans expect that from us. The robust Transformers entertainment offering – which spans television, gaming, and full length features – lends itself to products, and we’ve enjoyed finding like-minded partners to grow the brand and its consumer product portfolio.

Talk us through the next steps in the movie franchise for Transformers.

We still have several action-packed years coming up for the Transformers brand. Beginning this year, there will be a movie every year for the next three years, helping fans connect with the brand and its characters like never before. With Michael Bay at the helm, Transformers: The Last Knight – the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise – hit theaters in June 2017, and featured leading actors like Mark Wahlberg, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner and Josh Duhamel. For December 2018, Hasbro is working on a film centered on the never-before-heard story of Bumblebee, and in June 2019 Hasbro will unveil an entirely new exciting storyline for the beloved brand.

Do Hasbro ever find themselves at a crossroads with brands such as Transformers? How do you ensure you are catering for all aspects of your fan base that spans such a wide range?

Legendary fashion house Moschino featured Transformers in a collection available globally now. Inspired by the original Transformers look from the 1980s, the line is kept up to date with a vibrant gender neutral pallette, action packed graphics and stylish silhouettes across men’s women’s and kids’ apparel and accessories.

Furthermore, we foundout that popular stationery manufacturing company Blue Sky will be developing products based on Bumblebee Movie in Q4 2018. The stationery and gift products will be ‘retro styled’.

The rest of the interview was focused on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the new series Stretch Armstrong. Brand Licensing Europe 2017 will take place this October 10th at Olympia London, UK. Hasbro booth can be located at D-40.

Man, if you're going to leak, LEAK. Don't be cute about it, it's annoying. TF-factory, the usual Weibo leaker, has struck again. Today's first round of leaks revolves around the Studio Series, the movie line expected to start somewhere around next April. We have new package images for Brawl, Optimus Prime, and Starscream - though the latter two have been both pixelated AND had their contents scribbled over - and a piece of artwork for Starscream. Click through to see.
Happy Weibo Leak Day, I guess? The same Weibo source that brought us the image of the box back panel now has posted images of the upcoming Movie Series Blackout and its accessory Scorponok! The figure is quite impressive looking, and as we learned from the packaging already, boasts a 46-step transformation. Keep reading to see!
Next up on the leaks from Weibo users this morning, "tf-factory" has also dropped package-back images of Leader Brawl and Megatron from the upcoming movie line! ...but, they've been marked through. Either someone's being an extra-clever leaker, or Hasbro has gone very effectively low-tech in their leak prevention efforts! But if you'd like an unobstructed view of an as-yet unreleased figure we've also mirrored images of Authentics Grimlock here. Keep reading!
A user on Weibo has shared out a partial image of the back of box for an upcoming Blackout toy. What is presumed to be a Leader Class figure from the recently-named 'Studio Series' lineup as revealed via Toys R Us inventory data can be seen (in typical CG render style) in both robot and vehicle modes, and includes a small scorpion mode Scorponok partner figure just as the original Voyager Class Blackout did way back in the 2007 movie line. Little specifics can be discerned, but we do get to see the call-out for a 46 step transformation process, to which we can say only: Yikes! Click through to view the full size image.
The 4K UHD release the first four Transformers films: TRANSFORMERS, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, which will be released on December 5th (TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT is available now on 4K UHD). All releases come in a 3-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray Combo Pack with Digital copy.
