Masterpieces continue to climb in price, and so far the Beast Wars lineup has stood even that much higher than comparable Autobot or Decepticon releases. While it's still my person belief that the upcoming Megatron will not exceed the 25,000 Yen price tag that Dinobot will be launching with come the end of July or so, it's very likely to be right there alongside among the priciest of Masterpieces. Accessory inclusions are often a way to make a steep retail price easier to accept, but what could we see included with Megatron? Keep reading for some ideas.
Joining Cordon with a brand new product page on TakaraTomy's website today is the TakaraTomy Mall exclusive MP-29+ Shockwave, featuring a new deco inspired by the original toy, rather than the cartoon appearance. Sadly while Shockwave has a similar offering of turnaround "360 view" photography, these photos are of a much smaller size than Cordon's. But if you're looking for how the deco was handled from a particular angle, these should still have you covered. You can find the whole batch of both robot and gun mode photos mirrored below.
TakaraTomy has added a product page to their website for the recently announced MP-42 Cordon. While many of the images on the page are the same stock photos we've already seen, new to this posting is the set of "360 view" photos showing the figure in each mode from multiple turnaround angles. Sadly the amount of black on Cordon makes it fade a little too much in with the dark background, but this still affords some nice extra looks at Sunstreaker's retool. Click through to check it out!
According to an e-mail being sent out by Amazon Japan, the originally planned release date of the upcoming MP-41 Masterpiece Dinobot is being changed. Customers with Dinobot on preorder with Amazon Japan have been receiving the notifications advising of the delay in arrival from the originally planned release at the end of July. Takara Tomy Mall updates with newer official images the Transformers Masterpiece MP-42 Cordon figure that is a MP style remake of the Diaclone New Countach LP500S Police Car.
These new images are bigger and provide a good look at the retooling, and other additions as well confirmation the figure will include its own unique arm-weapon that is different from the Sunstreaker edition.
Look for MP-42 Cordon to be released in Japan late October 2018 for a price of ￥16,200 JPY / $148 USD. Read on to see the translated product information and images.
Amazon Japan has updated a ton of product pages today, and among them is the just-announced recolor of Masterpiece Sunstreaker, MP-42 Cordon! Sporting a new lightbar - well, technically two
, one for the chest and one for the car - Cordon also has a new headsculpt more in tune with the original toy than Sunstreaker's animation-inspired face. Keep reading to see!
The long awaited Masterpiece Destron Laserwave (Shockwave) is finally a reality! Laserwave transforms from a powerful and deadly robot into a large Cybertronian handgun and just like the G1 toy, he features an LED light up function. Laserwave requires 2 LR23 batteries for the gun barrel LEDs and 2 AA batteries for the chest LEDs. His eyes also light up via the light piping from the back head panel.
TakaraTomy Mall has opened their listing page for MP-29+ Shockwave, a few days in advance of the preorder period beginning. In Japan, this Shockwave will be exclusive to TakaraTomy Mall, though there's a good chance of a wider availability in other parts of Asia as has frequently been the case with TTM exclusives. Oddly, the page is using a number of screencaps of Shockwave from the cartoon while highlighting certain details, so we're not sure if they think this is supposed to be an animation accurate recolor - because it really isn't. The preorder period runs between May 14th and June 11th with delivery in November. Click through to see the high res official photos!
Figsoku has tweeted out a few shots from TakaraTomy's display at our still unidentified Japanese hobby show, and this batch of shots includes our first look at Masterpiece Cordon. The Diaclone-inspired police redeco of Sunstreaker looks to have a retooled head, though any other physical changes are not immediately evident. No vehicle mode is on display that we can see as yet, though it should be easy to imagine what it would look like based on the actual Diaclone toy. Keep reading to take a look!
From the same event that brought us the first look at MP Beast Wars Megatron, we have a photo of a display poster promising Plus edition versions of MP-29 Shockwave and MP-36 Megatron, featuring decos based on the original toys, and in at least Megatron's case, new tooling for a toy-inspired head. Shockwave seems to be scheduled to ship in November, and while Megatron is marked as being for release in 2018, no more specific timing is given. But it does look like preorders will start for at least Shockwave on May 14th on TakaraTomy Mall. Check out the photo below!
Singapore-based Facebook fan group Planet Iacon
has posted a set of rumored TakaraTomy releases for October 2018. Primarily it's comprised of Power of the Primes
releases, but also of note is the addition of "MP-42 Korudon," described by PI as "Diaclone Sunstreaker." The prevailing guess seems to be that the Diaclone toy being homaged is not the red version of the Sunstreaker mold, which was the very first Transformer to be designed... but instead the police recolor, which would make the name "Cordon" make sense. Read on for the list!
This month's issue of Previews carries a somewhat surprising inclusion, as shown in an image of one of the catalog pages posted by blue death
. The Hasbro release of MP-17+ Prowl, which we had previously learned would be offered for sale through some online retailers in the US is now also going to be available from Diamond, through Previews, for comic shops and other specialty retailers to have the opportunity to order as well. The Animation Colors Prowl looks like it's going to be a strong push towards increasing the market reach of Masterpiece toys in at least the US market - a good idea, with the demise of Toys R Us now at hand.
A recent listing on Taobao offers a possible tip-off of a MP10G Optimus Prime Golden Lagoon Edition coming from Takara Tomy. The listing indicates the MP10G will be out in July for a price of 12,800 JPY ~ 120 USD. No images yet, read on to see the translated details for more info till we know more. Keep in mind, this is not confirmed till we get the official word.

From our forums, we've got another video by chuckdawg1999, this time taking a look at the newly released MP-40 Targetmaster Hot Rod. The video serves as a good comparison between this Hot Rod and the original release, really highlighting the significance of the new deco. Plus of course we have a look at the Targetmaster figure itself, originally seen on the US release of Masterpiece Rodimus Prime. You can find the video embedded below; click through to watch now!
