Transformers Hammers the Audience into Submission Says Director Terry Gilliam

By Jack Q on Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Michael Bay may be laughing all the way to bank, but his peers are not afraid to LOL at him him public. It's no secret that Bay's "leave the story behind as we take no prisoners" formula is what sells tickets.

Three times in a row, with increasing box office receipts, the Bay way has proven to be profitable at what a director like Terry Gilliam points out, "You just sit there and watch the explosions. I couldn't tell you what the movie was about. The movie hammers the audience into submission."

Gilliam, who has made cult classics movies such as "Brazil" and "Twelve Monkeys" goes on to give the movie some kudos for being aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but highlights what a lot of fans have felt is missing from the Transformers movie trilogy: depth and impact.

Ultimately, he shifts the blame to Hollywood itself that is not focused on the serious movie fan anymore: "The shots are amazing, but if there is no consequence, no gravity, what's the point? I can't watch Hollywood movies anymore. There's no room for me."
