IDW Publishing has let loose that the company will release Transformers ReGeneration One #80.5 on Free Comic Book Day on May 5, 2012, which will help to bridge the gap between the Generation 1 Marvel comic book series #80 from 1991 and the IDW Publishing version #81, set for release later this year.

Speaking to Comic Book Resources, Simon Furman, the writer of the original and the issues today, said that while he usually prefers to make up new storylines, he is happy to return to this old universe.

"[I]t's always felt like unfinished business," he told CBR.

"Sure, we wrapped things up to a degree back in 1991, but a whole lot never got addressed. So this is our chance to do it again."

The entire interview covers his thoughts of returning the universe that shot him to stardom as well as where he looks to take it through issue 100, which is the planned ending of the series.
