Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is poised to be the biggest film grosser at the box office of the 2009 year and all within two weeks of its release date.
The film has amassed $448.4 million to date, with the film performing extremely well in the US domestic and overseas box offices. The current top worldwide grosser is
Angels and Demons with $469 million.
Domestically, the film amassed $14.9 million and $13.5 million on Monday and Tuesday respectively for a total of $228.4 million. Meanwhile, foreign moviegoers unloaded $14 million and $16 million, respectively. The foreign total is $220 million.
Just like
Transformers, Asian territories are the biggest driver for
Revenge of the Fallen. Despite the
controversy, China saw its highest opening ever for an English-language film, with $22 million from 1,000 screens.
The Australian debut saw an 80% lead from the first film with $13 million while Russia was 69% higher with $11.8 million.
The film is projected to overtake Disney Pixar's
Up in the domestic box office after this weekend.
