Transformers Animated Lead Character Designer Derrick J. Wyatt has revealed that the Electrostatic Soundwave is an homage to the Soundblaster character.
"This was one of my ideas for a Soundwave repaint," he comments on his own blog A Delightful Tedium.
He also said that the character of Electrostatic Soundwave's companion Ratbat came before the actual figure design.
