Rodimus Unicronus No Longer Giving Main Line Representation to Shattered Glass?

Earlier tonight we shared with you some photos of an apparently early-release copy of Rodimus Unicronus, the new addition to Power of The Primes Leader class wave 2. But there's a bit of a discrepancy with it, as highlighted for us on Twitter by Barricade64. The official images we've seen of the toy since it was revealed have featured aspects of its deco and the slight remolding of the Rodimus Prime head that point to an intentional nod at the Shattered Glass continuity that was a recurring staple of Fun Publications' time producing licensed material for the brand. It seems that isn't quite so much the case anymore. Keep reading!

The stock photos we've seen already, such as those featured on the Canadian Toys R Us website showed Rodimus Unicronus with a purple Autobot symbol as part of the chest deco, which for many cemented the reference back to Shattered Glass, although much of the deco used already favors what Shattered Glass Rodimus looked like. But the new in hand photos have the chest branded with a Decepticon symbol instead. Interestingly, the back panel of the box which we also got to see from today's early sighting report does show a Decepticon symbol in use, so it looks like this change was neither accidental, nor particularly late in the production process of the toy. This certainly raises the question then of what the original intent really was, and where through the process this change was made that retailer stock photos which otherwise seemed to reflect a finalized deco still showed the purple Autobot insignia.
